A team player A
team player is a person who works well with his or her colleagues to
achieve a common goal. At PACRO, we all share a common goal which is our
mission statement. You may relate this reasoning to that of a football
team, where there a different players who have different roles but share
the same aim which is to score.
There are 3 important
qualities that every team player should have. Firstly the team
player should be reliable. A reliable person gets the job done and meets
targets. To achieve, this certain level of commitment is needed. For
instance, the team player should be able to follow through on
assignments and be consistent in execution of their duties. This relates
back to Mr Simpemba’s talk on ‘Love for Pacro’.
Secondly the team
player should be able to communicate constructively. This means that the
person speaks up and addresses his or her issues in a positive, honest
and direct manner and shares these ideas with other team members. For
instance, if you have a problem it is better not to gossip about it but
express your ideas openly with confidence and honesty to the other team
members. This will lead to successful team work and a successful
organization. Thirdly, it is
important to listen carefully to other members of the team. The only way
to learn is to listen carefully and consider all point of view and ideas
raised by the team members. These ideas can then be absorbed and
understood to give us a favorable outcome. A team player should also be
able to withstand criticism without getting defensive .Therefore, listen
first, and speak second.
Therefore if we
possess the 3 key qualities highlighted above, we will achieve our
desired goal. |
